As someone born and raised here, I know this city inside and out - the scenic nooks for unique photos, the best venues for a killer party, and the local tips that make wedding days run smoothly. With years of experience as a wedding photographer, I’ve captured celebrations in every season and setting, and I’m excited to share my insider knowledge to help you plan a beautiful and stress-free Denver wedding.

Best Time of Year in Denver

Denver’s weather is like that one friend who changes outfits five times before leaving the house—unpredictable but the reason most people move here. September and October are your safest bets for comfortable temps, golden aspens, and fewer surprise snowstorms. Late spring (May-June) is also gorgeous, with everything in bloom. If you’re dreaming of a winter wonderland wedding, go for it—but have a backup plan for possible weather hiccups.

Denver Marriage License 101:

Getting a marriage license in Denver is easier than finding parking in RiNo on a Friday night. You and your partner just need to head to the Denver County Clerk’s office with valid IDs. It’ll cost you $30, and you can self-solemnize, meaning you don’t need an officiant. Yes, you can literally marry yourselves....very Colorado. After the wedding, don’t forget to file your signed license with the county clerk’s office. You’ll want those official documents when it’s time to change your name or file taxes as newlyweds.

Warning! Altitude + Alcohol = Plan Accordingly:

Denver sits at 5,280 feet (aka a mile high), which means you’ll feel that champagne a little quicker. Remind your guests to hydrate and pace themselves—altitude hangovers are not cute.

Permits and Locations:

Dreaming of a mountaintop elopement or a scenic park ceremony? Make sure you check for permits. Popular spots like Red Rocks, Sapphire Point, and Lookout Mountain require them. For city chic, check out the venues listed below!

Sunset Timing!:

Don’t trust Google’s sunset time - it lies. Mountains make the sun disappear faster, so plan your golden hour photos 30-45 minutes earlier than you think. Your photographer will guide you.

Weather Whiplash:

Pack for four seasons in one day. Sunny and 70° at noon? Great. Surprise hailstorm at 2 PM? Also possible. Have a rain plan and a sense of humor.

Vendors Book Fast:

Denver’s wedding scene is 🔥. If you’ve got your eye on a specific venue, photographer, or florist, book early—12-18 months out for peak season is smart. That said, if you are booking a last minute celebration, don't hesitate to reach out and see if the date is still available!

Airbnb vs. Hotel in Denver:

Choosing between an Airbnb or a hotel for your Denver wedding stay comes down to your vibe and needs.

  • Airbnb: Ideal for larger groups or getting-ready crews, since you’ll have more space to spread out. Bonus points for charming Victorian homes or modern lofts with cool photo ops. Just be sure to double-check local regulations—some Denver neighborhoods have strict short-term rental rules.

  • Hotel: Perfect for convenience and amenities. You’ll get reliable services, room blocks for guests, and no stress about cleaning up. Top picks? The Ramble Hotel for boutique luxury, The Maven for artsy vibes, or The Crawford Hotel inside Union Station for a quintessential Denver experience.

*Pro Tip: If you’re getting ready at an Airbnb, make sure it has good natural light and enough mirrors for your crew.
